Who knew!

Back in '94, our first season at the PA Faire, I discovered a whole new world: the merriment, exuberance & commitment of patrons and merchants. Years before, while living in Lancaster, friends encouraged me to attend this "novelty event" with them & I just shrugged and said I didn't think it was my cup of tea.

Then, when my husband was hired to work there as a performer, I got a job managing the Brass Rubbings Shop (alas, no longer there). I fell in love with the place. A truly awesome experience to be a part of such energy and creativity. And then, with a friend's encouragement, I wrote a very long proposal, referencing all sorts of Medieval & Renaissance herbs, handed it to the Faire's owner and then, a year later, I started digging the earth to create my own herb garden in a special little corner of our Shire.

Marvelous people volunteered to help me build my shop. I was in awe of the experience. I barely made any money the first few years, but it was a labor of love (so many people thought it was just a garden and it took time to lure them into the shop itself). And my husband and son were with me through it all. What job gets any better? Now, with 2 shops and a year round effort to keep up with product production, I'm still not getting rich, but I am very gratified by the warmth and friendship of so many remarkable patrons, as well as my fellow merchants. Could it get any better? Who knew!

By the way, we've been having various email glitches for the past couple of weeks, so I've either received some notes several times, or, perhaps, not at all. So, if you'd like to be on my friends list, and don't think I noticed, please don't hestiate to try again. I'm still catching up on this email snafu, rats!

    Cheers & be well.

In the time of the year when cold is upon us and the sun draws nigh
You've given the warmth of friendship so this dragon can continue to fly

With heart and compassion you've alway come thru
I count myself blessed to have friends such as you

When I seek miracles I find that they abound
I find them in the very best people in the whole world around

So with heart-felt appreciation I offer my wishes for a Merry Christmas to you
And throughout the year may may God's blessings be bestowed upon you.

In my eyes, you hold the future in your hands, shining bright full of hope.
In my eyes, you have true beauty, in flows from your heart and draws others to you.
In my eyes, you are brilliant in your own special way.
In my eyes, you are an artist in your own medium, you create everything from songs to smiles....thank you for sharing them.
In my eyes, you truly are someone worth knowing, I'm glad I do.
In my eyes, there is nothing you can't accomplish once you've set your mind to it.
In my eyes, there is no one finer to call friend, thank you for being mine. The world is a better place because you are in it.
If there ever comes a time when you hesitate or have doubts about yourself, try looking at yourself from what I see in my eyes.

Some dragons seek to collect gems and jewels
I feel sorry for such pitiful fools,
Some dragons gather both silver and gold
I find counting such coins very tedious and old.
Let the others find things that fade as their treasure.
In my friends I have wealth beyond measure,
When times are good or bad,
When I'm feeling happy or sad.
I have ones I can turn to, the ones who care,
You call me friend because you dare,
When you need an ear in tough times or
just want to share a flagon...
Just look for this wizened old dragon
